Abstract
1,252,874. Attenuators. TEKTRONIX Inc. 13 May, 1970 [3 June, 1969], No. 23130/70. Heading H3U. [Also in Division H1] A step attenuator of the rotary turret type (see Division H1) comprises a plurality of elongated attenuator sections 12 mounted on metal plates 56 and has means for grounding the plate 56 of the selected section via two oppositelydirected parallel current paths (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) whereby the attenuator section has extremely low inductance and a wide frequency bandwidth. Each section 12 comprises a ceramic strip 68 bonded to the metal plate 56 and carrying respective input and output contacts 74 and 76. Voltage divider resistors 70 and 72 are formed as coatings on the bottom of strip 68 and are connected to the contacts 74, 76 by soldering at their lower ends. A variable capacitor 80 controls the input capacitance of the section and has part formed by a metalized portion of the ceramic strip 68, while a variable coupling capacitor 82 is similarly formed. Apertures 88 and 90 in plate 56 enable adjustment of capacitors 80 and 82 respectively. A damping resistor 84 providsd as a coating on the top of strip 68 prevents ringing without attenuating a D.C. signal being transmitted. A shunt capacitor 86 may be provided as shown to form an A.C. voltage divider with capacitor 82.
