Abstract
1,252,476. Flavourings; tobacco. HAARMAN & REIMER G.m.b.H. 8 Dec., 1969 [17 Dec., 1968], No. 59721/69. Headings A2B and A2C. A flavouring substance having a flavour corresponding to a product whose flavour is formed by fermentation or roasting is prepared by heat-treating a mixture of substances known to occur in the unroasted or unfermented substance and selected from:- (a) C 12 -C 33 ) hydrocarbons (b) amino acids (c) sugar and sugar alcohols (d) non-sugar polysaccharides (e) carboxylic acids (f) polyphenolic compounds (g) xanthopyhll and its degradation products (h) ammonia for at least 5 hours below 110‹C at a relative humidity of 45-98%, steam distilling, and isolating the flavouring from the distillate. The reactants may be ground into a paste with a little water and applied to an inert support prior to heat-treatment. An aqueous extract of the raw substance may be added prior to heat treatment. In an example relating to tobacco, the reactants include nicotine and an extract of green German Binley leaves.
