Abstract
1,251,924. Disproportionating rosin. ARIZONA CHEMICAL CO. 8 May, 1970 [23 May, 1969], No. 22447/70. Heading C4D. Rosin is disproportionated by heating at 180-350‹ C. in the presence of at least 0À01% by wt., based on the rosin, of a compound wherein A is a mono- or bi-cyclic aromatic nucleus, x and z are each 0-3, y is 1-3, and R is C 1 -C 22 alkyl, C 6 -C 18 aryl, C 3 -C 8 cycloalkyl, or H, halogen, NO 2 , NH 2 or COOH. Specified compounds include toluene-3,4-dittriol, 2-hydroxy-1-naphthalenethiol, thiosalicylic acid, and 2,4-dihydroxythiophenol. A steam, N 2 or CO 2 atmosphere may be used.
