Abstract

1,251,710. Drinking appliances. RAINBOW VALVE CO. Ltd. 12 June, 1970 [12 June, 1969], No. 29732/69. Heading A1M. [Also in Division B1] In apparatus for dissolving an additive in a solvent the additive is formed into a stick 14, Fig. 2, retained in a tubular stem 2 having a pocket 12 in which solvent is retained to a predetermined depth as by overflow outlets 3. As shown the invention is embodied in a drinking water supply apparatus for poultry, in which the water supply pipe 10 leads to the stem 2 and the solution overflows over a dome 4 to a trough 1. The apparatus is suspended from a lever arm 6 operating a valve 7; decrease in weight opens the valve. In operation birds are drinking continuously so that there is a constant flow past the additive stick. In modifications the additive stick 14 may be surrounded by a sleeve (21) dipping with the liquid in the pocket (Fig. 5, not shown); or be retained in a tubular pocket (18) closed at its lower end and enclosed in a tubular jacket (19) connected into the liquid supply pipe 10, see Fig. 4 (not shown); or the additive stick may be retained by a tube 15, the lower end of which dips into the body of liquid in the trough 1, see also Fig. 3, (not shown).
