Abstract

In a motor vehicle, a prefabricated headlining assembly comprises preformed semi-rigid hardboard formers 14 sewn or otherwise bonded to front and rear edges of a substantially rectangular headlining sheet 4 and engaging front and rear header rails 13 respectively of the vehicle, strip-like formers 5 of pliable fibre attached, e.g. sewn, to the side edges of the sheet 4 and engaging rolled lips 6 of cant rails 3 of the vehicle, and listing rails 8 inserted in sleeves 7 on the sheet 4, which sleeves extend transversely of the vehicle and are located between the headlining sheet 4 and a roof panel 2 of the vehicle, the ends of the listing rails 8 being held in sockets in retaining brackets 9 of moulded plastics material which frictionally engage a sidepanel 1 of the vehicle, the roof panel 2 and the cant rail 3. As shown in Fig. 3, the hardboard formers 14 are each retained between the front and rear header rails 13 respectively and either the roof panel 2 or panels 12 welded to the respective rail 13. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 2, the listing rails are inserted in brackets welded to the side panel of the vehicle.
