Abstract

124,991. Wade, H., (Pittsburgh Testing Laboratory). July 11, 1918. Recovering waste lubricants.-Waste lubricating oils, especially petroleum oils which have been in internal-combustion engines under light service, or on heavy service for short periods, and which do not require the whole process described in Specification 124,990, are dissolved in a hydrocarbon solvent and treated with alkali, the solvent being then distilled off. The process may also include other steps, as follows: the oil is clarified by settling or centrifuging, dissolved in about four times its volume of gasolene or petroleum naphtha, shaken up with fuller's earth or bone black, filtered, treated with a two per cent solution of caustic soda, and washed, the solvent being then distilled off.
