Abstract
1,249,884. Stackable tray. LINPAC CONTAINERS Ltd. 27 Aug., 1969 [30 Oct., 1968; 20 Jan., 1969], Nos. 51433/68 and 3228/69. Heading B8P. A collapsible tray is constructed by folding a blank, Fig. 1, to a U-shape to form a box base 1 and opposite sides 2, 3, the ends being formed by base extensions 26, 28 and/or side extensions 4-7. Side extensions 4-7 and sides 2, 3 are provided with flaps 33, 36, 35, 38, 34, 37 which may be folded about the sides and side extensions via three-armed fold lines 15-22 to form either an inwardly directed stacking support along each side 23, e.g. 34, 37, L.H.S., Fig. 3 (33, Fig. 4) or an inwardly disposed, downturned rim, e.g. R.H.S., Fig. 3. Side extension flaps may overlap the outer, e.g. 33, 36 L.H.S., Fig. 3 or inner, e.g. 35, 38 R.H.S., Fig. 3 (34, Fig. 4) surface of the side extensions. Adjacent side and side extension flaps may be separated by cuts (3, 5, Figs. 1, 2) to allow flap folding. The tray which may be held together by stapling projections 8-11 and flaps 33, 36, 35, 38 to side extensions so that they overlap may be collapsed substantially flat by inwardly folding base extensions 26, 28 over base 1 and subsequently outwardly folding the overlapping base and base extensions about fold lines 40-42 whilst inwardly folding the stapled side extensions about their central abutting inner edges (Fig. 4). The tray may be formed of fibre-board, corrugated 2- or 3-ply cardboard and may be held together by adhesive. Projections 8-11 may extend the length of an edge of the associated side extension 4-7 to provide overlaps.
