Abstract

1,249,850. Stacking bricks. C. KELLER & CO. 10 April, 1970 [13 May, 1969], No. 17272/70. Heading B8C. Apparatus for setting up bricks or the like in a plurality of gapped, juxtaposed columns, comprises a stationary platform 2 formed with spaced slots 5 extending in a common direction, a continuous conveyer 6 adjacent an end of the platform, means for setting the bricks on the platform as an array of continuous columns extending in the common direction, a carriage 12 mounted under the platform 2, a drive means for reciprocating the carrier in the common direction, a plurality of pusher members 15 movably mounted on the carriage and aligned with the slots respectively, the pusher members, in first positions, projecting from the slots 5 for engagement with the bricks when the carriage moves towards the conveyer 6 and, in second positions, being withdrawn from the platform when the carriage moves away from the conveyor, a second drive means, for driving the conveyer in a direction to move the bricks thereon away from the platform 2, and drive control means for operating the first and second drive means in timed sequence to open gaps in the columns of bricks as the pusher members 15 transfer the bricks from the platform 2 on to the conveyer 6. As shown, the position of the carriage is sensed by cam-operated switches 21 which control the speed of the conveyer and the carriage to establish the gaps in the columns formed on the conveyer. The pusher members are spring or weight-loaded to their operative positions which they assume after being returned to their initial positions below a newlytransferred batch of bricks deposited on the platform. The gapped columns are removed from the conveyer by a hoist 9 and deposited in a kiln car (not shown).
