Abstract

1,249,182. 1,1,1 - Trifluoro - 2 - chloro - 2- bromoethane. MONTECATINI EDISON S.p.A. 1 Jan., 1969 [2 Jan., 1968], No. 80/69. Heading C2C. 1,1,1 - Trifluoro - 2 - monochloro - 2 - monobrpmoethane is obtained by debrominating 1,1,1 - trifluoro - 2 - monochloro - 2,2 - dibromoethane by reaction with an alcohol under alkaline conditions. All linear or branched, primary, secondary or tertiary aliphatic alcohols or aromatic alcohols may be used, methyl, npropyl, isopropyl and benzyl alcohols being suitable. The reaction is preferably effected in the presence of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal base or an amine at temperatures from ambient to the boiling point of the reaction mixture.
