Abstract

1,249,118. Polysiloxane coated fibres. MIDLAND SILICONES Ltd. 10 Feb., 1969 [9 Feb., 1968], No. 6588/68. Heading D1P. A yarn or cord of rayon, nylon or polyethylene terephthalate at least partially coated with a lubricant of (1) a polydiorgano siloxane of the unit general formula wherein R is an organic radical, n has an average value of from 1.9 to 2.1 and from 0.5 to 15% of the total R substituents are R'NX 2 or R'Z or a mixture there of wherein X is H, alkyl or aryl, R' is a divalent hydrocarbon such that the NX 2 and/or Z group are separated from the silicon atom by at least three carbon atoms, and Z is a monovalent radical composed of C, H and N atoms which contains at least two amine groups and is attached to R' through a C-N linkage, at least 70% of the remaining R substituents being monovalent hydrocarbon radicals or (ii) an acid salt of the polydiorgano siloxane (i). In particular for rayon tyre cords both X substituents are hydrogen. The remainder of the R groups may be for example alkoxy, halogenated hydrocarbon carboxyalkyl or cyanoalkyl radicals, but are preferably monovalent hydrocarbon radicals. The lubricant (i) may be a copolymer of dimethyl siloxane units and units of R" R"' SiO wherein R" is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical and R"' is R'NX 2 and/or R'Z and in particular R"R"'SiO is methyl (aminopropyl) siloxane, methyl (N-#-amino ethyl-y-amino isobutyl) siloxane or methyl (N-#-aminoethyl- γ-aminopropyl) siloxane. The poly diorgano siloxane (i) or acid salt (ii) may have a viscosity of 1,000 to 100,000cs at 25‹C.
