Abstract

1,247,930. Labelling machine. H. KRONSEDER. 10 Dec., 1968 [15 Dec., 1967], No. 58550/68. Heading B8F. A mechanism for transferring labels from a label container to a labelling or intermediate cylinder in a labelling machine comprises a member 4 having suction nozzles 6, the member 4 being given a pivotal motion superimposed on a rotary motion so that it is brought to a standstill during part of the period during which it takes the label from the container, and is then given a slight reverse displacement relative to its direction of rotation and also a transverse movement to remove the label from the container, the member then being accelerated in the direction of its rotation to give it an angular velocity greater than that of its steady rotational velocity during the period in which the label is taken up by the labelling or intermediate cylinder. As shown, the member 4 is pivotally mounted on a crank-pin 3 which is constantly rotated about a driving shaft 1 in an anti-clockwise direction. An arm 7 fast with the member 4 carries a follower roller 8 engaging a cam groove of a stationary member, the groove being shaped so that in the position shown in which the member receives a label 11 from the container, the member is pivoted clockwise to station the working face relative to the label, subsequent rotation of the crank giving further clockwise pivoting of the member 4 to shift the working face slightly clockwise and raise it above the container to withdraw a label from beneath retaining hooks 13 of the container. Further rotation of the crank accelerates the member 4 in the direction of rotation of the crank to bring the speed of the working face up to that of the labelling or intermediate cylinder. In a modification (Fig. 6, not shown) the transfer member is again rotated by a crank, but to give it its pivotal movements the transfer member is fast with a pinion concentric with the crank-pin and meshing a pinion rotatably mounted in the transfer member and fast with an arm of a roller engaging a stationary cam groove. In another modification (Fig 7 and 8, not shown) the transfer member is pivotally mounted in an arm which is pivotally mounted on the crank-pin, the arm being fast with a lever carrying a roller engaging the stationary cam groove. In this embodiment the transfer member is pivoted by a sector fast with the crank-pin and meshing a pinion fast with the transfer member.
