Abstract
1,246,645. Stabilized polyamides. BURYATSKY INSTITUT ESTESTVENNYKH NAUK. 16 Sept., 1968, No. 43924/68. Heading C3R. Hexamethylene diamine is polycondensed in a stream of inert gas at 180‹ to 260‹ C. with a dicarboxylic acid or its diphenyl ester in the presence of up to 6 mol. per cent based on total reactants of an aromatic tetramine or bis-oaminophenol or where R is -CH 2 -, -C(CH 3 ) 2 -, -O-, or a direct valency link and R<SP>1</SP>is -O-, -C(CH 3 ) 2 - or -CH.C 6 H 5 -. This amount is stated to enhance the stability of the polycarbonamide against light, heat and hydrolysis. The tetraamine or aminophenol may be added initially or after formation of the polyamide melt. Further heating in vacuo at 260‹ to 280‹ C. is stated to increase the molecular weight. In examples hexamethylene diamine is polycondensed with diphenyl adipate or sebacate in the presence of about 5 mol per cent of 3,31-diaminobenzidine; a mixture of the tetra-amines of diphenyl methane and oxide; 3,3<SP>1</SP>-diamino-4,4<SP>1</SP>-dihydroxy-diphenyl propane; or, a mixture of 3,3<SP>1</SP>- diamino - 4,4<SP>1</SP> - dihydroxy - diphenyl methane and oxide. Products having inherent viscosities between 0À58 and 1À02 (0À5% at 20‹ C.); that of Example 4 (0À51) is reduced to 0À2 on hydrolysis with HCl for one hour at 80‹ C. The polyamides are crystalline and soluble in m-cresol, tricresol, formic acid or chloral hydrate. Reference is made to Specification 811,758.
