Abstract

1,246,380. Clocks. H. GARGAT. Dec. 30, 1969 [Dec. 30, 1968], No.63192/69. Heading G3T. The dial of a clock case 1 is periodically visible through an opening 8 in a fixed, spherical outer shell 4, 5 as the case 1 is rotated together with an inner shell 2 by means of a hollow shaft 11 driven by an electric motor 15. The outer shell 4, 5 is fixed to a base 7 by a hollow stand 6 while the drive-shaft 11 is attached to a bow 3. The case 1 is pivotably fixed in the bow 3 by trunnions 1a to permit access to the clock's setting and winding gear. The bow 3 is rigidly attached to the inner shell 2 which may be translucent or perforated by holes 16 containing transparent or translucent decorative stones. The shell 2 is illuminated from within by a lamp 17 and the illuminated decorations also become visible as the shell 2 rotates. In an alternative embodiment, the outer shell comprises a pair of concentric, truncated spheres (21, 4b), Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown). The rotating shell (2b) is housed within the inner sphere (4b) and is driven by a motor (15b) contained in the space between the spheres (21, 4b).
