Abstract
1,245,198. Hose. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. 17 March, 1970 [1 April, 1969], No. 12741/70. Heading F2P. In a method of producing a fabric reinforced hose, a fabric sheath is coaxially located about a length of flexible elastomeric tubing, fluid pressure is internally applied to the tubing to expand it into contact with the sheath, and a composite structure formed by the use of a liquid polyurethane reaction mixture to bond the sheath and tubing together, the reaction mixture is cured and the fluid pressure to the elastomeric tubing removed. The polyurethane reaction mixture may be applied to the elastomeric tube prior to the application of fluid pressure or alternatively to the fabric sheath after the application of fluid pressure. In both cases the reaction mixture permeates the fabric sheath. The fabric sheet is preferably of polyamide, polyester, cellulose, cellulose derivatives or wire. The polyurethane mixture may be prepared from (a) a reactive hydrogen containing material having a molecular weight from 700 to 5000 e.g. polyester polyols, polyether polyols, castor oil and hydroxyl terminated polymeric polyols having a hydroxyl functionality of from about 2 to 3 and molecular weight from 2000 to 4000, (b) an organic di-isocyanate e.g. diphenyl methane - 4,4<SP>1 </SP>- di - isocyanate and 3,3<SP>1</SP>- dimethyl - 4,4<SP>1</SP> - bisphenylene di - isocyanate and (c) a curing agent selected from diamines with primary and secondary amino groups, hydroxyl amines, hydrocarbon diols and di-, hydroxy-, or amino-carboxylic acis, e.g. ethylene glycol, 1,3-propane diol, 1,4-butane diol, ortho-dichlorobenzedine and methylene bis orthochloroaniline. The elastomeric tubing may also be of such a polyurethane or natural or synthetic rubbers. The elastomeric tube may be built up on a steel mandrel covered with a release agent by the application of two layers of the reaction mixture with curing after each application cross-linking agents may be added to the reaction mixture to produce a cellular polyurethane which increases the buoyant properties of the hose.
