Abstract

1,244,431. Train communication system. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. 24 March, 1970 [13 March, 1969], No. 13393/69. Heading B7N. [Also in Division H4] In a transport system a passenger on a vehicle, e.g. train or aircraft, can send one of number of predetermined messages relating to arrival time &c. to a telephone subscriber via a central control computer controlling the movement of vehicles in the system. Control centre computer 1 receives information relating to position, speed &c. of all trains in the railway network it controls and supplies to each train via a telecommunication link and equipment 3, 4 information regarding the running of the train, i.e. "on time" or "5 minutes late" and this is displayed on train panel 5. Adjacent the panel is a passengerdialling station 6 whereby on inserting a coin a telephone number can be keyed on push buttons 8 and on push-buttons 9 one of a number of prerecorded messages held in a library 2 at the control centre can be preselected. On pressing the release 10 the number and message codes are transmitted via the link to the control centre which initiates a call to the subscriber 12 via exchange interface 11 and on receiving an answer plays the selected message with times &c. inserted.
