Abstract

1,243,822. Synoptophores. OCULUSOPTIKGERATE G.m.b.H. Oct. 4, 1968, No.47254/68. Heading G2J. An apparatus for training the ocular muscles and measuring the angles of squint has two housings 7 and 8 pivotable about axes A-A by means of pivot pins 2 and 3 which are slidably adjustable to allow for different pupillary distances and carry mirrors 17, which are rotatable about axes A, B, the patient's head being supported by an adjustable chin rest 10 and head rest 11 so that the two small mirrors 17 are held in front of the eyes with the centres of rotation of the eyes at the points of intersection of the axes A. As shown each housing 7 and 8 has a tube 23 with a projector lens 25 at one end and an image carrier 26 at the other illuminated by a source 28 and a condenser lens 24 so that an image is projected on to the ceiling. These images are seen by the patient with the aid of mirrors 30 prisms (31) Fig.2 (not shown) and mirrors 17 the image rays being directed towards the centres of rotation of the eyes in any position of the mirror 17 relative to the eye. To prevent instrument cyclophoria during the pivoting of the mirrors 17 about the axis B by means of rings 14 operated by handles 19, the tubes 23, and thus the image carriers 26, are turned simultaneously by bevelled gears 32, 33 with the rotation of rings 14. If the eye to be tested has its own cyclophoria this may be neutralized by pivoting the image carrier 26 relative to the tube 23. Scales 20, 21, 22 and 35 are provided to measure the appropriate distances and angles.
