Abstract
1,243,761. Hydraulic systems for vehicles. GENERAL SIGNAL CORP. 24 Feb., 1970 [9 May, 1969], No. 8870/70. Heading B7H. In an hydraulic system for a construction vehicle having a steering circuit 13 and an implement circuit 14 supplied by respective engine-driven gear pumps 15, 17, and a demand valve 23 arranged as described in Specification 1,091,836 to split the output of a third pump 16 between the circuits 13, 14 in such a way as to maintain a constant total flow to the steering circuit 13 over a major part of the speed range of the engine 18, overheating due to excessive oil discharge through an implement circuit relief valve 45 is avoided by providing between the demand valve 23 and the implement circuit 14 an unloader device 27 which diverts oil from the demand valve 23 to a reservoir 19 when pressure in the implement circuit exceeds a predetermined value. The unloader device 27 comprises an unloading valve 31 for opening and closing an exhaust passage 32 to the reservoir 19, a first pressure cylinder 35 urging the valve 31 towards the open position, and a second pressure cylinder 36 urging the valve 31 towards the closed position and subjected to the pressure in a passage 37 which is supplied through a restrictor 38 from a conduit 26 between the demand valve 23 and the implement circuit 14 and leads through a pilot valve 41 to the reservoir 19. When the pressure in the implement circuit 14 exceeds the predetermined value, the pilot valve 41 opens against spring- loading 42 to create a pressure drop across the restrictor 38 so that the cylinder 35 opens the unloading valve 31. A piston 43 subject to implement circuit pressure in the conduit 26 beyond a check valve 33 holds the pilot valve 41 open until the implement circuit pressure decreases. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 2 (not shown), the unloader device is connected between the pump 17 and the implement circuit.
