Abstract
124,338. British Thomson - Houston Co., (General Electric Co.). June 13, 1918. Electro - magnetic switches; switckboards. -Relates to the construction of electromagnetic switches, designed for operation with other switches, whereby they may be easily assembled side by side in a bank. According to the invention, the switching- mechanism comprises a supporting - frame 7, Fig. 3, having parallel longitudinal rails 5, 6, the rail 6 carrying the electro-magnets 10 for each switch, and the fixed and movable contacts 20, 15 being carried by vertical bars 21 secured between the rails 5, 6. The shaped fixed contact 20 is connected to the terminal block 26 through a coiled conductor 32 which energizes a blow-out electro-magnet. The movable contact member 15 is pivoted to a link which is pivoted to the other terminal block 27,. and the contact is pressed away from the link by a spring 19 to give a rolling engagement with the fixed contact. An arc chute consisting of two similar slabs 33 of refractive material secured to brackets carried by the terminal blocks surrounds the contacts. Each vertical bar 21, carrying the contacts, blow-out device, and the operating-link 17, is secured to the rails 5, 6 by angle-iron brackets 22 and bolts. The operating electro-magnets 10 are secured to the lower horizontal rail 6, and the armatures 11 are pivoted to an extension of the rail, so that the lower rail serves as part of the magnetic circuit of the electro-magnets. To complete the assemblage, each link 17 is connected to its armature by a pin. The bus-bars are connected to the terminal blocks 26, 27 and may be secured thereto before the blocks are clamped to the vertical bars. Insulating distancepieces 30 may be threaded on the bars.
