1,243,316. Herbicides containing phosphonic acid esters. CHEMIEKOMBINAT BITTERFELD VEB. 12 March, 1970, No. 11943/70. Heading A5E. [Also in Division C2] A plant growth-inhibiting or herbicidal composition comprises a phosphonic ester of the formula: wherein X is H, a halogen atom, NO 2 , CN, alkyl, alkoxy, or alkylmercapto, and R 1 , R 2 and R 3 which may be the same or different are unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl or heterocyclic radicals and a solid or liquid carrier or diluent. The composition may be in the form of a solution, wettable powder, dust, granulate, or emulsion and may contain a surface active agent. Fertilisers and/or known pesticides and/or herbicides may also be present.
