Abstract

1,242,647. Inflatable formers. H. HEIFETZ. 4 March, 1969 [7 March, 1968], No. 11511/69. Heading B5A. [Also in Division E1] A removable former, over which the whole or part of a building is cast, comprises an inflatable form having a flexible base, the form being secured around the periphery of the base to a rigid or rigidizable ring. The ring is connected with either downwardly or upwardly radially inwardly directed curved rods or struts so that the pressure of the form inflating medium acting on the struts or rods through the base either pulls or pushes the ring downwardly into contact with its support, thereby counteracting the elevating effect of the inflated form. In the embodiment illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3, the form 1 having a base 8 and a peripheral inflatable anchoring pipe 32 is clamped by elements 22 to a segmented ring 4, inwardly directed downwardly curved cables 28 being attached at their outer ends to the ring 4 and at their inner ends to ring 30. The material cast over the form may be cement or plastics, e.g. glass fibre reinforced polystyrene and the form may be made of rubberized fabric which if desired may be externally coated with hard rubber plates (see Figs. 13A, 13B) not shown. In a second embodiment (see Fig. 16, not shown), for particular use in casting ceilings, the form and base are connected to a ring as above and are supported by a similar set of cables, additional cables intended for retention as reinforcements in the cast article being fixed to the ring and running over the top of the form. In a third embodiment specifically intended for insitu casting, the form is connected to an in-situ cast concrete ring 85 by means of parts 86 set in the ring, against which parts the form is clamped by segments 90 and clamping elements 91.
