1,242,561. Separating polymer and gas; polymerisation apparatus. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 17 Feb., 1969 [11 March, 1968], No. 11768/68. Headings B1M and B1X. Apparatus for separating molten polymer from gas which polymer is flowing on the inside of an outlet 2 from continuous polymerization apparatus comprises a cone 4 with an inturned lip to form a channel 10 to prevent free fall of molten polymer into the polymer pool below. This prevents formation of stalactites of solidified polymer. The apparatus may be maintained above the m.p. of the polymer by jackets heated by vapour or electricity.
