Abstract

1,242,444. Screening ores; autogenous mills. SOC. DES MINES D'ANDERNY CHEVILLON. 9 Aug., 1968 [21 Aug., 1967], No. 38113/68. Headings B2A and B2H. In a method of enriching ores, e.g. of low iron content, the constituents of which have different degrees of friability and different contents of valuable components, the ore is submitted to a self-grinding treatment in a rotatable screening drum so that the softer constituent of the ore is ground to a predetermined particle size which is controlled by the discharge of the softer constituent through the perforations of the drum as it attains the predetermined particle size. The screening drum 1, Fig. 1, which is belt driven by an electric motor 5 is formed of longitudinal beams 9 and bracing and reinforcing rings 10 defining between them spaces for the reception of screening segments 2. The segments 2 may comprise spaced radial strips 6, Fig. 3, or perforated plates 7, Fig. 4. The segments may be detachable and may be removed from the exterior of the apparatus. The apertures formed in the segments may be adjustable in size and the size of the apertures may vary from one segment to the next in the direction of travel of the ore through the drum. The drum may be constructed of parts that can be readily disassembled. The ore to be treated is fed through a frusto-conical section 4 having an adjustable inlet passage provided by interchangeable collars. Discharge of the harder constituent takes place through a frustoconical section 8 in which may be fitted extraction blades 12. The drum is housed in an asymmetrical manner in a casing 13 to provide better discharge of the ground softer constituent on to a transfer mechanism, e.g. a conveyor belt, disposed beneath the casing. The beams 9 carry on their outer surface spaced pointed protuberances to prevent clogging of the zone receiving the screened softer constituent. The casing 13 is mounted on a supporting frame 3 the inclination of which may be varied between 0‹ and 10‹ by means of a screwjack.
