Abstract

1,242,020. Photographic printing papers and receptor sheets. FUJI PHOTO FILM CO. Ltd. July 3, 1969 [July 4, 1968], No.33587/69. Heading G2C. A photographic printing element, which may be a light-sensitive printing paper or a receptor sheet for the diffusion transfer process, contains a water-soluble fluorescent brightening agent in at least one photographic layer and in the same or another layer a water-soluble polymer or copolymer of a compound of the formula: - wherein R 1 is methyl or ethyl and R 2 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl. Alternatively, a printing element containing the polymer of copolymer only is developed in a developer containing the brightening agent. Improved whiteness is obtained. Compounds specified are N-vinyl-N-methyl-formamide, -acetamide and propionamide and N-vinyl-N-ethylformamide, and the compounds may be homopolymerized or copolymerized with e.g. methacrylamide, acrylamide, acryloyl, morpholine, acrylic acid, 1 -vinyl-2-methyl-imidazole, N-vinylpyridine, maleic anhydride, and sodium pvinylbenzene sulphonate. Brightening agents of the diaminostilbene, benzidine, triazole, imidazole and imidazolone types may be used.
