1,241,887. Endless chain conveyer high-voltage electron sterilizer. B. C. LOCKHARTJERVIS. 5 May, 1970 [5 May, 1969], No. 22869/69. Heading B8A. A conveyer system for a high-voltage electron sterilizer unit includes an endless track 2 passing through a loading and unloading point 14, and a sterilizing chamber 6 in which a beam of highvoltage electrons is scanned over the goods to be sterilized, and an endless driving chain 26 which is guided both vertically and horizontally around the track. The system also includes means 8 electrically insulated from the chain for driving the latter, and an endless line of trays 30 connected to the chain for carrying the goods to be sterilized, the track and chain being electrically insulated from earth, and the track having a section which is electrically insulated from the rest, where it passes through the sterilizing chamber. The conveyer system is mounted on stands 16, and the track carrying the driving chain is electrically insulated by the action of blocks 22 of suitable material. Each tray 30 is rigidly connected to the chain 24 but is supported also on a respective wheel 34 carried by a second chain 24. This arrangement permits relative movement of the trays on the curves. The goods to be sterilized are carried in boxes 36 carried in the trays 30.
