Liquid is fed to the rotatable drum 10 at its lower end and leaves the drum by the perforations 18. The solid is introduced in countercurrent and the rotation of the drum carries batches of solid material around in pockets formed by flights to leave by the chute 20. Means for clearing the perforations 18 are provided.
