Abstract
1,241,090. Electro-physical measurement. ELECTRONIC SENSING PRODUCTS Inc. May 9, 1969, No.23771/69. Heading G1N. A metal detector comprises tuned coaxial transmitter and receiver coils one of which has a reentrant loop so that there is substantially no coupling and only a small signal is received in the absence of metal. The receiver is preferably so placed, and tuned to the higher side of null, that decrease in inductance due to the presence of metal causes an increase in signal. The transmitter is energized with audiomodulated R. F. from a "squegging" oscillator and the tuned receiver coil is fed to a multi-stage transistor amplifier with an adjustable threshold and an A.V.C. feedback from the output stage with a delay network to disregard drift. Signal indication is by meter and phones. In an underwater unit the coils, meter and circuitry are housed in a polyester case shrunk over PVC fittings. An earthed shield of parallel wires may be embedded in the bottom of the case.
