Abstract
1,240,996. Transparent polyamide films. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 11 Nov., 1968 [17 Nov., 1967], No. 52484/67. Heading C3R. Calcium fluoride is incorporated in polyamide films to improve transparency. 0.01 to 2 wt. per cent of finely divided calcium fluoride may be incorporated in the polyamide monomers before polymerization or in the molten polymer which is then shaped into a film by conventional extrusion, extrusion-blowing or vacuum-forming techniques. The fluoride may be formed in situ in the monomer or polymer e.g. from Ca(OH) 2 and NH 4 F. The polyamide may be nylon 6 or 66. In the example 0.2 wt. per cent of calcium fluoride is incorporated in a film of nylon 66 of I.V. 3.1 (0.5% in formic acid at 25‹ C.).
