Abstract

1,240,562. Pipe couplings. COMPOFLEX CO. Ltd. 26 Jan., 1970 [6 Feb., 1969], No. 6513/69. Heading F2G. A hose connector 1 has external gripping protrusions 2 at one end for drive fit insertion into a hose bore, and a smooth outer surface 3 and threaded bore 4 at the other end. The protrusions 2 have a saw-tooth profile and may be discontinuous. Alternatively the protrusions 2 are studs. The ends of the connector may be of different diameter. The gripping end of the connector 1 is pushed into a corrugated plastics hose 5, the braid 6 of which is extended over the smooth surface 3. A rotary joint assembly comprising sleeves 9, 8, 12 and a ferrule 7 is coupled to the connector 1 and hose 5, the sleeve 4 being screwed into the connector, forcing the tapered metal ferrule 7 over the braid 6, gripping the braid on the smooth surface 3 of the connector. The connector 1 may be of rigid polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, nylon, polystyrene, steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, or bronze. The hose 5 may be of polypropylene with the braid 6 of polyethylene. The joint may be used in association with a vacuum cleaner.
