Abstract
1,240,368. Cine projection apparatus. BELL & HOWELL CO. May 22, 1969 [May 31, 1968], No.26118/69. Heading G2E. In a cine projector with sound reproduction, the size of film loop 38 between intermittent film feed at the projection gate and continuously driven sound capstan 18 adjacent sound head 64 is maintained within a predetermined limit by means of a loop sensing member 108 on a pivoting arm 100 which closes switch 96, if the loop exceeds that limit, to energize a solenoid operative to disengage the intermittent feed mechanism from the film while the capstan continues to drive. Alternatively, the loop size may be sensed by a light source and photo-cell which is used to trigger the solenoid energizing circuit. The feed mechanism comprises shuttle 20, Fig. 6, pivoting and sliding axially on pivot 34 in response up-and-down cam 24 and in-and-out cam 42 rotating on shaft 26. Plunger 122 of solenoid 114 acts to rotate retractor member 128 clockwise about pivot 134, whereby finger 130 retracts the shuttle to disengage claw 40 from the film.
