Abstract

124,007. Sundh, A. Jan. 8, 1918. Eccentric-actuated pumps; multiple-acting piston pumps; balancing parts; regulating delivery by by-passes; relief devices; springs; stroke, varying; valves, arrangement of.-In an eccentricactuated pump, the eccentric 26 is adjusted transversely of the driving shaft 4 bv means of fluid pressure for the purpose of varying the stroke of the plungers 5. The shaft is bored to form a chamber 32 in which a piston 31 is moved by the fluid pressure admitted to either end of the chamber by ports 34. The piston carries a rod 30 engaging opposite sides of the eccentric, so that, when the piston is moved, the eccentric is moved in the same direction. The pressure-fluid is admitted to the chamber 32 from an accumulator 95 by means of a hunting-valve 71 controlling ports 89, 90 connected by pipes to annular chambers 42, 43 communicating with the ports 34 by means of passages 35, 36 in the shaft. The eccentric 26 is balanced by means of a weighted member 46 slidably mounted on the shaft and adapted to be moved in the opposite direction to the concentric by means of a rack-and-pinion connexion between it and the eccentric. Two springs 50, 51 enclosed between the opposite faces of the member 46 and the shaft resist the centrifugal movement of the member 46, and two springs 65 in a casing attached to the eccentric resist the centrifugal movement of the eccentric. A rod 53 engaging opposite faces of the member 46 has a wedge surface 55 engaged by a rod 56, which is forced against it by a spring, so that, when the member 46 moves across the shaft, the rod 56 is moved axially and actuates a yoke 77 connected by links 80, 81 to the rod of the valve 71. This movement returns the valve to the closed position. The valve is opened to adjust the eccentric by means of two sets of electro magnets 86, 87 for moving the valve in opposite directions. The magnets in each set are energized successively by means of a multiplecontact switch so as to exert an increasing turning movement on a spindle 84 carrying a lever 83 connected to the valve-rod by links 82, 81. The accumulator 95 is fed by a pump 101 actuated by an eccentric on the shaft 4 and mounted in a sump in the pump casing. When the level of liquid in the sump is high, a float opens a switch of an electro-magnet holding a by-pass valve open, thereby closing the by-pass valve and allowing the pump to force fluid to the accumulator. When the level falls, the float closes the switch and thereby opens the by-pass. Each pump chamber 7 communicates alternately with annular inlet and delivery chambers 11, 13 in the head of the pump casing. The inlet and delivery are controlled by a piston valve 10 actuated by an eccentric 19 on the shaft 4. Relief valves are arranged between the chambers' 11, 13. The invention is applicable to motors of the same type.
