A method of sealing a vehicle windscreen comprises mounting the windscreen by a gasket 30 on a flange 42, positioning a strip of material S containing an electric conductor between the gasket 30 and flange 42, passing an electric current to soften the strip, and applying pressure to the gasket to bond it to the flange. When using a gasket of the type shown, the strip S is first inserted by the tool shown in Fig. 1 softened and a wedge strip inserted in the groove 41 so that it presses the leg. 40 against the strip S which takes up surfaces complementary to the surfaces of the gasket and flange which it contacts. Further pressure may be applied by the use of a roller. Alternatively the wedge strip may be inserted before heating the strip/s and pressure applied by a roller.
