Abstract

1,239,526. Inert batteries. MAGNAVOX CO. 23 July, 1969, No. 36959/69. Heading H1B. An inert battery activatable by immersion in an electrolyte, with the plates of the cells supported by header plates at opposite ends of the cell plates has a filling/venting channel formed in each header plate which intersects the cell plates obliquely. As shown in Fig. 5a the channel 50b in header plate 28 intersects the cell plates at an oblique angle which increases the electrolyte path between cells and also contains baffles 52 which further increase the path. The baffles may be omitted or replaced by barriers which leave a narrower channel in the middle (Fig. 5b, not shown). The batteries described are Agbl/sea water/Mg or Zn batteries.
