A dispenser comprises shoots 53, preferably inclined, containing a stack of articles P resting on a slotted shoot bottom stop 54 and a rotary dispensing element 22 with at least one recess 26 adjustable at 72, 74, and projecting arms 60 which, when indexed by its individual motor under e.g. coin control, sweep through the slotted stop 54 and eject an article laterally through opening 56, adjustable in size at 57, 58, to be guided at 39 into the recess of the dispensing element which then stops with the article displayed behind window 38. On actuation, the element dispenses the article from the display position via ramp 34, to fall behind a transparent front door to a lower hopper, the element then ejecting another article into its recess and presenting it for display. At the top of each stack is a blocking element 70, too big to pass through opening 56 and which, when all articles have been dispensed, stops rotation of the element whereby an overload switch bypasses the motor and an indication is given that the shoot is empty. The shoots have sides hinged at 53a for reloading and are aligned one above the other on a vertical wall 44 whereby several walls of shoots are accommodated in a cabinet, the walls running on tracks forwardly out of the cabinet for servicing one at a time according to the position of a transversely sliding slotted bar.
