Scale conversion apparatus, particularly for inch/metric conversion e.g. for a lathe feed screw 1 having an indicating drum 3 marked with a first scale of units 5 comprises an endless belt 8 driven by a portion of the drum 3 and marked with a second scale of units 15. The belt may be frictionally driven or have holes engaging sprocket teeth (not shown) on the drum, and may be trained around guides and rollers or pegs to increase the arc of contact with the drum and to reduce the space occupied by the belt (Fig. 3, not shown).
