1,238,522. Trifluoromethyl phenyl acetic acid derivatives. ELI LILLY & CO. 28 June, 1968, No. 31076/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division A5] In examples o- and m-trifluoromethyl phenyl acetonitrile are prepared from the corresponding benzyl chloride and sodium cyanide. o- And m-trifluoromethyl phenylacetyl chloride are prepared from the corresponding acid and thionyl chloride. o-Trifluoromethyl phenylacetimino methyl ether is prepared from the corresponding nitrile and methanolic HCl. Alpha - (o - trifluoromethyl phenyl) acetamide is prepared from the above imino ether by heat treatment. Alpha - (m - trifluoromethyl phenyl) acetamide is prepared from the acid chloride and ammonia. Alpha - (o - and m - trifluoromethyl phenyl)- N,N - dimethyl acetamide are prepared from the corresponding acid chloride and dimethylamine. o - And m - trifluoromethyl phenyl acetic acid are prepared by hydrolysis of the corresponding nitrile.
