[Also in Division C3] A solution suitable for impregnating filter elements comprises a phenolic resole, a solvent and a minor proportion of a BF 3 /aliphatic amine complex. The resole may be prepared from a phenol or a meta-substituted phenol and formaldehyde. The solvent may be methanol. The amine may be ethylamine. The solution may also contain a minor proportion of an epoxy-resin, e.g. bisphenol-A diglycidyl ether. The filter element may be a paper oil-filter element. After impregnation it may be dried in a drying tunnel.
