Abstract

1,237,393. Gel filtration chromatography. MIDLAND SILICONES Ltd. 21 Feb., 1969 [22 Feb., 1968], No. 8720/68. Heading B1X. [Also in Division C3] A medium for use in gel filtration chromatography comprises a cross-linked organosilicon material having a microporous structure, and a particle size preferably in the range 10-300Á. Columns packed with such material are particularly suitable for separating mixtures of polydimethylsiloxanes, both inter se and from mixtures thereof with styrene, and also mixtures of dibutyltin dilaurate and lauric acid, using in each case toluene as eluent. Preferred organosilicon materials are a condensate of a hydroxylated organopolysiloxane with an alkoxy silane, an alkyl orthosilicate or an alkyl polysilicate, or the product obtained by reacting a silicon-bonded olefinically unsaturated organopolysiloxane with a compound containing silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms, but a number of other wellknown products may also be employed. If desired, materials such as calcium carbonate may be incorporated into the compositions to be cross-linked, such materials being eventually leached out by treatment e.g. with acetic acid.
