Abstract

1,236,656. Monoazo dyes.. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 15 Aug., 1968 [17 Aug., 1967], No. 39119/68. Addition to 1,159,691. Heading C4P. The invention comprises monoazo dyes, free from acidic water-solubilizing groups, of formula wherein R 1 is a 3-pyrazolyl, pyridyl, quinolyl, 2-benzimidazolyl, 1,2,4-triazolyl or 3-isothiazolyl. groups which may be substituted, R 2 is aryl which may be substituted, B is N or =CH- which may be substituted and Z completes a ring which may be substituted and their quaternary salts. The dyes are prepared by coupling a diazo compound of an amine R 1 - NH 2 with an appropriate coupling component and treating the product with a quaternating agent, if desired. The dyes may be used to colour polyester, polyamide cellulose ester and acrylic fibres in yellow and red shades.
