Abstract
1,236,019. Apparatus for irradiating water in a circulatory system with U/V radiation. W. A. C. THEED. 26 June, 1968 [27 June, 1967], No. 29546/67. Heading H5R. In the pulp treating section of a paper or wood pulp mill 11, the water used therein is circulated for re-use by a pump 13 and circuit 12, and to avoid bacterial contamination in the constantly re-used water, there is arranged a position for example a trough 14, at which the water may be subjected to the action of U/V light. Preferably the U/V sources 16 are arranged in two banks connected separately to control member 21, when the intensity of radiaation applied to the water may be varied by using one, or other bank of lamps or both of the banks. A preferred U/V souce is a quartz mercury arc lamp. If desired, the lamps may be immersed in the water flow.
