Abstract

1,235,833. Disposal of tankers' waste oil. CITIES SERVICE TANKERS CORP. 28 Feb., 1969 [5 March, 1968], No. 10761/69. Heading B7M. A method for safely burning residual crude oil on board a ship comprises mixing residual crude oil having a flash point of less than 120‹ F. with a hydrocarbon fuel oil having a flash point of at least 170‹ F. to produce a blended fuel having a flash point of not less than 120‹ F. and then burning the blended fuel on board the ship. In the examples given the residual crude oil is the oil recovered from the crude oil cargo tanks of a tanker and the blended fuel is used for the propulsion system of the tanker.
