Abstract

1,235,618. Colour Holography. HOLOTRON CORP. Sept. 22, 1969 [Nov. 12, 1968], No.46562/69. Heading G2J. A volume hologram, to be used to reconstruct a coloured image, is formed by illuminating an object 51 with coherent light containing at least two wavelengths (6471Š and 5208Š), forming an image 49 of the object on to one side of a photosensitive sheet 47, Fig. 5, and illuminating the sheet 47 from the opposite side with coherent light of the same wavelengths. Preferably the reference beam comprises the two wavelengths in a single beam from the same source position. A suitable coherent light source for both object and reference beams is a Krypton laser. The photo-sensitive object is processed to form the volume hologram during which time it is swelled. The image is reconstructed from the volume hologram by illuminating the hologram 47<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 6, with a point source 63 of polychromatic light e.g. from a tungsten filament lamp, or a Krypton laser. In an alternative embodiment, the coloured image 49 of the object erected on the photo-sensitive sheet may be derived from a colour master hologram formed in the conventional way.
