Abstract

1,234,864. Solid state oscillators. NIPPON ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 18 July, 1969 [19 July, 1968], No. 36366/69. Heading H3T. An oscillator comprises a main cavity resonator 5 of the re-entrant type, a plurality of cavity resonators 4 angularly spaced about the main resonator 5 and each coupled to the main resonator 5, solid state elements 2 respectively mounted in the cavity resonators 4, a tuning rod 7 for adjusting the resonant frequency of the main cavity 5 and an output means 8 facing and spaced apart from the tuning rod 7. The solid state elements 2 may be Gunn or IMPATT diodes supplied with bias from conductive rods 3 which also act as microwave chokes. The oscillation outputs of the individual elements 2 are phase synchronized with the resonant frequency of the cavity 5 to produce a stabilized output. The Q of the cavity 5 is higher than those of the resonators 4 and the cavities 4, 5 are coupled via windows 6.
