Abstract

1,233,818. Packaging. KUSTNER FRERES & CIE S.A. 11 Aug., 1969 [27 Aug., 1968], No. 39992/69. Heading B8C. A machine for packing pasty substances or viscous liquids in independent containers preformed on the machine comprises a horizontally rotating drum 1 with containers disposed in recesses 4 distributed in a plurality of rows around its periphery there being an odd number of uniformly speed recesses in each row. As shown, the drum 1 is driven stepwise and is provided with four rows, each of fifteen recesses, each recess being formed by a piston 5 controlled from within the drum by a fixed cam 6. Aluminium foil is cut from a strip 7 at a station I and formed into containers in each of the four recesses at this station. At a station II the containers are filled from a hopper 8 via pipes 9; at station III an external piston 10 places a lid on the product in the containers; at station IV, a folding device turns down the container edges of the lids; at station V, a piston 11 evens out and completes the closure and applies a label and the packages are ejected at station VI on to a conveyer 12. The foil may be bent down to cover the product completely thereby to dispense with a separate lid.
