Portable apparatus for measuring the moisture content of a wall comprises an r.f. oscillator connected to electrodes 13, 14 for placing in contact with the wall and a meter 7 for measuring the power consumed by the oscillator. Additional electrodes 16, 17 may be switched in to change the measuring range.
