Abstract

1,233,260. Statistical apparatus. REVENUE SYSTEMS Ltd. 11 Dec., 1969 [12 Dec., 1968], No. 59162/68. Heading G4M. A card on which data is represented by passive resonant devices, e.g. printed circuit coils, is read by placing it in the field of a reactive element which is fed by variable frequency oscillations, and a counter indicates the resonant frequency of any one or more of the devices in the field. The frequency may be swept linearly or stepped, the counter being stepped in synchronism and its state being read out when the load on the oscillator feeding the reactive element alters due to correspondence between the oscillator frequency and the resonant frequency of a device. The resonant devices may be arranged in rows and columns, each column representing one digit. Each digit may be represented by a particular resonant frequency or by a set of devices of different resonant frequencies representing binary digits. Preferably adjacent columns of devices have resonant frequencies in different bands to avoid mutual interference.
