Abstract
1,232,961. Wig. M. CADEN. 31 Dec., 1969 [2 Jan., 1969], No. 186/69. Heading A4V. A wig or toupee is made by applying a sheet of plastic material to the scalp, marking the outline of the area of baldness, and removing that area from the sheet so as to form a template. The template, after reapplying to the scalp, and the area of baldness are then covered with a release agent and then by a plaster paste which is set into a cast. The inside of the cast is waxed and a corresponding negative mirror cast is formed from which a base for the wig is moulded. The base, of polymethyl methacrylate, is placed on a maluable head block and covered by a sheet of gauze to-which hair is knotted by hooked needles, the stands being inserted in rows with a series of parallel uncovered rows. The hair and gauze is then wetted, pressed into place, shaped, and baked in an oven before the uncovered rows are removed, and the remaining strips of hair placed in juxtaposition on the moulded base to form the final wig.
