Apparatus for applying a straightening or bending force to a workpiece 22, Fig. 1, which moves along a predetermined path of travel through the apparatus comprises adjacently disposed bending roll support members 42, 44, 46, 54 and 56 located at least partly at opposite sides of the path of travel, a plurality of bending rolls 62, 64, 66 and 68 disposed on each of the support members, and means 96 and 98 for moving the support members for selectively positioning certain of the rolls e.g. 62 thereon for engagement with a workpiece moving along the path of travel while the other rolls e.g. 64, 66 and 68 thereon are disposed for avoiding engagement with the workpiece. To facilitate the initial insertion of the workpiece 22, structures 12 and 14 are shifted by cylinder piston means 24 and 26 between an open position and a closed workpiece processing position. In the position shown in Fig. 1 the rolls 62 achieve maximum over-bending of the workpiece. However, the turntables are adjustable for shifting the position of the rolls 62 between radii 86 and 88 (see Fig. 5). A pneumatically operated reversable indexing and adjusting motor 96 drives the turntable 44 which in turn drives the turntables 42 and 46 while a similar motor 98 drives the turntable 56 which in turn drives the turntable 54. The rolls 62, 64, 66 and 68 are driven by hydraulic motors 134 and 136 via chain drives (see Fig. 3) and sleeve members 152, 160, 164. The sleeve 160 is rotatably supported by bearing units 166 and 168 for rotation around an intermediate position of the shaft 48. The sprocket 158 is secured on the sleeve 160 adjacent a lower end thereof. An upper end portion of the sleeve 160 is provided with a gear 170 which meshes with and drives identical gears 172 respectively secured to the lower ends of the roll shafts 70, 72, 74 and 76 so that all the rolls on the turntable 42 are driven in unison. The rolls on the remaining turntables 44, 46, 54 and 56 are driven in a similar way to that described above.
