Abstract
1,232,523. Cathode materials. INSTITUT PO OBSHTA I NEORGANICHNA HIMIA. 16 July, 1969 [16 July, 1968], No. 35919/69. Heading C1A. [Also in Division H1] A cathode material comprises a solid solution of lanthanum hexaboride and an isomorphous alkaline earth metal hexaboride, the latter being present in a proportion of between 20 and 50 mol. per cent. The material is obtained by a solid-phase reaction in vacuum at a temperature of 1700-1800‹ C. between lanthanum oxide, an alkaline earth metal carbonate and elementary boron in the required proportions. Examples are given of compositions containing 40 mol. per cent SrB 6 and 60 mol. per cent LaB 6 and 40 mol. per cent BaB 6 and 60 mol. per cent LaB 6 .
