Abstract
1,232,462. Recording apparatus; record tape. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. 8 May, 1968 [9 May, 1967], No. 21677/68. Headings G4M and G5R. Encoded information, such as letters, figures and symbols, is recorded by erosion of a metallic coating 12 on an insulating substrate 11 by passage of electric current, isolated uncoated zones 13a being provided to form a pulse track 13. The information may be read out optically, inductively or capacitively. The carrier 10 comprises a 0À1 Á aluminium layer vapourdeposited on a transparent paper tape and the zones 13a are either produced by erosion or by application of oil to the substrate before deposition of the aluminium. The pulse track 13 is read at 19 and used in unit 17 to control a brake 21 providing intermittent feed of the tape, and to switch recording current to multiple electrodes 16 in a recording head 26, the current density being sufficiently high to erode the metal locally but not between the head 26 and a full width grounded electrode 15. Beginning and end of tape indication is provided by increasing the length of the pulse and information zones respectively.
