Abstract

1,232,325. Electric selective signalling. ELECTRICITE DE FRANCE (SERVICE NATIONAL). 18 July, 1969 [31 July, 1968], No. 36353/69. Heading G4H. A signalling and control apparatus comprises an automatic receiver responder in each of a number of field-stations, a receiver order-emitter in a central station, and a transmission system to link the central station and a selected fieldstation, the receiver responders comprising at least one signalling-tone emitter and associated modulator controlled by the condition of a controlled member in the field-station, and at least one operating order receiver for changing the condition of the member 7 on receipt of control signals from the central station, the signal and order being complementarily modulated. A selected field station is connected to the central station by means of a telephone system causing a tape-recorder 43 to emit the station address. Signals from the oscillator 55 then pass via line 16 and switch 59 to the central station. This switch is set to one of two positions depending on whether e.g. a particular transmission line or its spare is in use. The normal position is F where the oscillator signal is chopped by the multivibrator 61 and relay 60 into long or short pulses depending on the condition of a line fault detector D. The operator at the central station bears the signal and may cause a control signal to be emitted to switch in the spare line. The key 25 is pressed causing the relay 27 to switch in the oscillator 29 in the periods of silence of the incoming signal tone, thus generating a complementarily modulated order signal. The tuned amplifier 67 responds to the order signal and activates relay 68. The switching circuit 71 ensures that power is supplied to the integrating capacitor 85 only if relays 60 and 68 are responding to complementarily "chopped" incoming and outgoing signals. A threaded device 74 responds to the charge on the capacitor 85 to switch in the spare line. The output from oscillator 55 is then passed through the switch 59 which has responded to the line switch and now appears at the output 16 as a continuous signal. In an embodiment each field station has several switches I and associated fault detectors D. Each of these are investigated in turn by means of delay devices, their condition being shown by indicator lights at the central station. The switch positions are indicated by two frequencies corresponding to the two switch positions. Orders for switching are also transmitted on two further frequencies.
